Researchers led by the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, with the Universities of Caldas and Quindío, the Quindío departmental government and other partners, are studying whether small modular reactors could be viable in Colombia's Eje Cafetero region, using computer simulations of technical, economic and social factors. The project was in final evaluation for national royalties funding in September 2026, it names no site and is not a plan to build.
