Ecuador nuclear power plan: first-stage 300 MW modular reactor (Ministry of Energy)

In February 2025 Ecuador's electricity vice-minister said the government's roadmap would first provide 300 MW of nuclear power through a modular reactor, later followed by a 1 GW plant, with a tender to select a builder planned for 2026. In December 2025 the ministry created a nuclear programme implementing organisation and set a horizon of about ten years for the first reactor (RNE1). No design, vendor, site or tender award has been announced.
