Sri Lanka nuclear power programme roadmap and siting (SMR capability considered)
Sri Lanka's Cabinet committed in March 2024 to a nuclear power planning programme, and the Atomic Energy Board's roadmap aims for a bid invitation by 2027 and plant operation by 2034. The roadmap took account of the ability to build SMRs, and six candidate sites from three regions have been identified for evaluation. No technology, vendor or site has been selected.
