Nuclear Energy Strategy for Canada (2026): SMR and microreactor objectives
Natural Resources Canada published Canada's first national nuclear strategy on 22 June 2026, after announcing it in April. Its objectives include at least one nuclear deployment, including SMRs, operational or under construction outside Ontario by 2035, and a Canadian microreactor demonstrated by 2035 for later deployment to remote communities. These are policy targets, not approved projects.
