Fensfjorden Kjernekraft SMR proposal near Mongstad (Austrheim and Alver)
Fensfjorden Kjernekraft, owned by Norsk Kjernekraft and Austrheim municipality, sent a notification with a proposed impact-assessment programme to the Energy Ministry on 1 September 2025 for a nuclear plant near the Mongstad refinery of up to 1,200 MW. In April 2026 it began assessment work for the Mongstad region (Austrheim and Alver). Norsk Kjernekraft's projects are based on commercially available SMR technology; no technology is selected and the capacity figure is not stored. Separate from the Øygarden project.
