Next Generation Nuclear Plant prototype HTGR at INL (2005-2013)
Historical proposal. Under the Energy Policy Act of 2005, DOE and Idaho National Laboratory set up the NGNP Project to develop, license, build and operate a prototype modular high-temperature gas-cooled reactor plant for process heat and electricity; the statute requires the prototype and associated plant to be sited at Idaho National Laboratory. NRC prelicensing interactions began in 2006 and were suspended in 2013 after DOE decided in 2011 not to proceed to detailed design and licence application. No design was licensed and nothing was built; output is not stored.
