VBER-300 nuclear plant project near Aktau, Mangystau (2006)
Historical proposal. In 2006 the Kazakh-Russian joint company Atomnye Stantsii was formed to build a nuclear plant near Aktau. Its feasibility study for a plant with VBER-300 reactors in Mangystau region passed the required approvals, including the state environmental review; work was then suspended pending an intergovernmental agreement on joint design and construction. Unit count and output are not stored. Kurchatov was later named only as a suitable area.
